Changes to the structure of MHG

Changes to the delegation of responsibility have been made to the Moscow Helsinki Group. Responsibilities of the executive director of MHG are to be handed to Nina Tagankina. She will undertake the coordination of basic projects of the “Support of Human Rights Centres in the Russian Regions” group. She will also be involved with the work concerning the “Independent Investigations of Violations of Human Rights in Russia” group. Danil Meshcheryakov will be involved with the coordination of work concerning the international partners’ projects of MHG called “Strengthening the potential of the apparatus for representatives and the committee of human rights in the Russian Federation” and “The Monitoring of the observance of rights of prisoners in Eastern Europe. He will also undertake preparation for the second all Russian civil congress and Jubilee events linked to 30th anniversary of the Moscow Helsinki Group.

Nina Alexandrovna Tagankina has two higher educations in Mathematics and law. From 1988 she has actively participated in democratic and human rights movements. From 2000 to 2004 she was chair of the council of Nizhni Novgorod for human rights, and was regional coordinator of many network projects of MHG. Since 2003 she has been working as head teacher of the International Independent Ecological and Political University and is a member of the Coordination council for human rights of the plenipotentiary chair for the President of RF in the regions. She is also a member of the regional board of experts of courts. She has extensive experience in government, legal and teaching work. Since 2005 Nina has been working in the central office of the Moscow Helsinki Group.
