The Commissioner of the Federal Government (CFG) on human rights and humanitarian aid Tom Kenings visited the Moscow Helsinki Group
On June 28, 2005 the Commissioner of the Federal Government (CFG) on human rights and humanitarian aid Mr. Tom Kenings accompanied with his people visited the Moscow Helsinki Group. The goal of the visit was to familiarize himself with the human rights work of MHG and its regional partners. From the outside, the Administrative Director of MHG A. Aseyeva and the Program Director of MHG N. Tagankina participated in the conversation. During the meeting they touched upon the questions about the cooperation of human rights activists with agencies of the authorities, instances of coarse, mass violations of human rights violations in Russian regions, the problems of the taxation of NGOs and several other problems. From the outside the Ombudsman and the people accompanying him displayed great interest in the means and methods of the influence of the human rights movement in Russia on the public policy and on the consolidation of civil society.
At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Kensing said that the government of CFG was very interested in the development of human rights organizations in Russia. As far as one is concerned, the Ombudsman expressed willingness to collaborate with MHG in the area of human rights and freedoms and the development of civil society.
