The international legal centre for the defence of human rights was founded in 1982 to develop a defence system of human rights and freedoms, by making use of international norms and comparative law. Interights has a consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council, at the Council of Europe and at the African Commission on the Defence of Human Rights. The centre is also authorised to present collective complaints on the European Social Charter.
The organization operates mainly in following directions:
It provides assistance to lawyers, judges, NGOs and victims for the preparation of cases for the consideration by national, regional and international tribunals;
It gives expert conclusions on cases that involve the interpretation of basic rights;
It implements representative functions in cases that are considered in regional international tribunals;
It conducts seminars on the use and interpretation of legal norms on the human rights protection;
It publishes materials on accomplishments in the field of human rights.
Besides, Interights collects a library of materials on international and comparative legislation on the defence of human rights. The programs that are implemented by Interights include: work on specific judicial cases, a strategic and institutional development, education, training and the production of necessary materials.
