The Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights in Poland was created in 1989 on the basis of the Helsinki Committee, which had been active in the underground since 1982. After the changes to the political regime in Poland in 1989 the members of the Committee decided to create an independent organization that would deal with education and research in the field of human rights. Due to the fact that the legislation that was in power at the time did not allow the creation of independent organizations, the Committee members decided to form a foundation that would have this role. At present the Polish Helsinki Foundation on Human Rights is one of Europe’s most experienced and professional Human Rights NGO. From its formation the Polish Helsinki Foundation on Human Rights develops joint programs and activities with numerous international and foreign organizations and institutions.
