The main target group for the Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG) is regional human rights organisations and other NGOs. At present about 200 regional organisations participate in MHG network initiatives.
A human rights monitoring network
A legal-aid clinics network
A network of multi-profile NGOs coalitions
Furthermore, there are more than 500 NGOs with which the MHG has contact in the regions.
The MHG is one of the founding members of the People’s Assembly which unites the largest Russian NGO networks and of the Initiative Group “Common Action”. The People’s Assembly functions as a periodical meeting of the leaders of influential Moscow-based organizations.
The MHG is also a member of the Association of regional human rights organisations, with which it closely cooperates in the frame of development of coalition activity in Russian regions as well as in other network initiatives.
The MHG maintains close ties, exchanges information, appears with joint statements and implements joint projects with such influential Moscow-based organizations as:
The International Historic-educational society “Memorial,”
The Glasnost Defence Foundation,
The Centre for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights,
The Centre for International Defence,
The Institute for Human Rights,
and many others.
The MHG cooperates closely with Youth Human Rights Movement to organise and implement activities and campaigns to defend public interests, to develop educational programs (as for non-commercial organisations and as for the legal education of the population and the general civil education.) to launch and support international and russian youth human right projects. Furthermore, the MHG co-operates with Youth Human Rights movements to develop youth and other human rights programs for the network of legal-aid clinics under the auspices regional human rights organisations, coordinated by the MHG, and to develop and realise programs in the North-Caucasus and the Caucasus region as a whole.
As a member of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, the Moscow Helsinki Group cooperates with national organizations from other national Helsinki groups – members Federation.
